FAQ'S

1. What is a hybrid school model?
A hybrid school model combines both in-person and online learning. At Thrive Academy, students attend two full days of in-person classes each week with expert subject-specialist teachers, and the rest of their learning is completed independently or through virtual sessions, allowing for a flexible and balanced educational experience.

2. How do students balance in-person and at-home learning?
Our hybrid model provides structure and support while also giving students the flexibility to manage their learning schedule. On in-person days, students engage in hands-on, interactive lessons with teachers. On the other days, they work on assignments, projects, and online lessons at home, with their families.

3. What subjects are covered in the program?
Our hybrid program covers all the core subjects such as math, language arts, science, history, French, and physical education. Students are taught by subject-specialist teachers, ensuring a deep and engaging learning experience. We also encourage creative exploration through extracurricular activities and projects.

4. Where is the school located?
We currently operate out of Gateway Church in Northwest London Ontario.

5. How much homework will my child be expected to do?
The amount of homework can vary depending on the assignments and projects, but on average, students can expect to spend approximately 1.5 to 2 hours working on assignments during their home days. This time allows for focused, independent learning, while also providing room for students to work at their own pace, and have lots of extra time to spend with their families and pursue other passions and interests.

6. Does Thrive Academy do formal assessments?
At Thrive Academy, we use a variety of informal and formal assessment methods to monitor student progress and tailor instruction to meet each child's unique needs. While we do not rely heavily on traditional testing or put a large focus on numbers and grades, we do conduct regular assessments in key areas such as literacy, numeracy, and overall academic development. These assessments help us track progress, identify areas of strength, and provide targeted support. We also work closely with families to keep them informed of their child’s development and ensure ongoing communication about their educational journey.

7. Are there extracurricular activities in the hybrid program?
Yes! In addition to the core academic curriculum, Thrive Academy offers various extracurricular opportunities, including arts, sports teams, leadership activities, and special interest clubs. These activities are designed to foster creativity, teamwork, leadership and personal growth, and they complement the academic experience.

8. What are the benefits of the hybrid school model?
The hybrid model offers several benefits, including flexibility, personalized learning, and a balanced approach to academic and personal development. Students gain independence, develop strong time management skills, and enjoy a dynamic learning environment that encourages both academic rigor and creative exploration.

9. Is the hybrid model suitable for all students?
While the hybrid model offers great flexibility and independence, it is best suited for students who are self-motivated and can manage their time effectively. We work closely with families to ensure that our student’s needs are met in the best ways we can, but we can't guarantee that this model is a good fit for everyone.

10. If my child has special needs, learning or behavioural disorders, can they still attend Thrive Academy?
We’ve worked diligently to develop a program that addresses the needs of many children, but we recognize that we may not be the best fit for everyone. If your child has special needs, learning differences, or behavioral challenges, please make note of this in your application. This allows us to assess whether our program can adequately support your child’s needs.
